Sends an email to all inactive members. The email is designed to encourage inactive members to visit your forum and includes a list of latest topics which hopefully sparks an interest.

  • Main page identifies number of emails that will be sent.
  • Ability to send a sample email to yourself.
  • Emails are never sent to banned members.
  • Email are never sent to members that have selected not to receive site mailings.
  • Emails are never sent to members with bounced email status.
  • Latest topics ordered by thread view count.
  • Unsubscribe link provided.
  • Can be run manually or automatically from a Cron.
  1. Download inactivemembers_v3.6.zip and unzip it.
  2. Upload the Andy folder to your server. The correct location is library/Andy.
  3. From your Admin Control Panel, go to the "Install Add-on" page.
  4. Upload the addon-InactiveMembers_v3.6.xml file.
  5. Click the Install Add-on button.
How to use step 1:
  1. Go to User Group Permissions and set the Administrative group to "Allow", this will allow the Administrative group to use the Inactive Members main page.
  2. Go to Inactive Members Options page and update fields
  3. Make sure the two email addresses are set in your Admin CP:

    Admin CP -> Options -> Basic Board Information -> Contact Email Address
    Admin CP -> Options -> Email Options -> Default Email Address

  4. Bring up the Main page by entering "inactivemembers" after the root portion of your forum URL. Here are a few examples depending on how you set up your forum:

How to use step 2:
  1. Use the Options settings and adjust the parameters as you like, or use the default settings.
  2. Click the "Send batch emails to X inactive members" link.
Don't send too many emails at one time:

Sending thousands of emails at one time can cause errors. If your option settings select thousands of members, I suggest you break up the batches into smaller ones, Here's an example how to do that:

Batch #1
Make the Minimum Posts be 10,000 and Maximum Posts be 100,000

Batch #2
Make the Minimum Posts be 1,000 and Maximum Posts be 9,999

Batch #3
Make the Minimum Posts be 1 and Maximum Posts be 999

How to edit the email message:

If you would like to change the email message, edit the following phrase:


All phrases start with inactivemembers_ for easy editing.

There are two variables which can be used in the message, {username} and {board_title}.

Run Cron option:

The Options page allows selecting Run Cron which will automatically send emails to inactive users every month.

By default this Cron runs on the first day of every month at 1:00am UTC. You can change this setting in the Cron Entries located here:

Admin CP -> Tools -> Cron Entries -> Inactive Members

Questions and Answers:

Q: Can this add-on send emails automatically?
A: Yes. Just select the Run Cron option.

Q: When will the Cron run?
A: It will run on the first of every month.

Q: Can the Cron be set to run over one month?
A: No. XenForo has a limit of one month maximum for Cron jobs.

Q: How can I send a test email?
A: Typically the admin has more posts than any other member, so set the Minimum Posts in the Options to a very high number so only you the admin will receive an email.

Q: Does it send emails to those with a user_state of 'bounced'?
A: No.
